    Mizoram University (MZU) was established with authority from the Mizoram University Act of the Parliament of India on 2 July 2001.

    Established by an Act of Parliament (No.8 of 2000), the University was inaugurated on 2 July 2001 and has since served the people.

    Further, 2019 Mizoram University’s excellence received an ‘A’ from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.

    Laltluangliana Khiangte

    Laltluangliana Khiangte is a Mizo scholar, dramatist, and poet who writes in the Mizo language. In addition to being a professor at Pachhunga University College and North Eastern Hill University, he served as the principal of Serampore College. He is currently the most senior lecturer in the Mizoram University Department of Mizo. The Mizo Academy of Letters’ highest literary honour, the Pu Buanga Award, was given to him. In recognition of his contributions to Indian literature, the Indian government gave him the fourth-highest civilian accolade, the Padma Shri, in 2006. He is quite a notable alumni of Mizoram University. 

    F. Lalnunmawia

    Mizoram native Dr. F. Lalnunmawia is a politician for the Mizo National Front. He lives in Samtlang, Aizawl, Mizoram. He represented the Aizawl South 3 Constituency in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly. Before being elected to the Mizoram Legislative Assembly, he was an associate professor at Mizoram University. He received his MA from NEHU in Shillong and his PhD in Botany from Mizoram University.

    Pu Lal Thanhawla

    Pu Lal Thanhawla is an Indian politician from the Indian National Congress party who served as Mizoram’s chief minister. With five terms as Chief Minister of Mizoram—1984–1986, 1989–1993, 1993–1998, 2008–2013, and 2013–2018, he holds the longest tenure in that role. From 1973 till 2021, he presided over the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee. He successfully ran for the Mizoram Legislative Assembly nine times, in 1978, 1979, 1984, 1987, 1989, 1993, 2003, 2008, and 2013, representing the Serchhip and Hrangturzo electoral seats.

    Vanlalthlana

    Vanlalthlana is an Indian politician and scholar from Mizoram. He teaches commerce as an assistant professor at Mizoram University’s constituent, Pachhunga University College. He is a founder member of the Mizoram regional political party, the Zoram People’s Movement. Running as an independent candidate in the 2018 election, he represented the Aizawl North 2 constituency in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly. He overcame H. Liansailova of the Indian National Congress, Laltlanzova Khiangte of the Mizo National Front, Lalthanliana of the Mizoram People’s Conference, and the MLA who was in office then. 

    Vanlalzawma

    Mizoram native Vanlalzawma served as a member of the Mizoram Lok Sabha constituency in both the 13th and 14th Lok Sabhas. Before entering politics, he was the 37-year-old Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) president in 1993. He held the position for two terms. During this time, Vanlalzawma was awarded an award by the President of India for CYMA’s effective wildlife conservation efforts in Mizoram. During this time, CYMA’s annual aim was to conserve wildlife (“nungcha humhalh kum” in Mizo). He was from Mizoram University too.

According to the NIRF Report 2022, 76 out of 1,115 UG and PG students got placement during MZU placements in 2021. The median package offered to UG and PG students was INR 5.10 LPA and INR 1.80 LPA during placements in 2021. Mizoram University (MZU) places appropriate students. Additionally, MZU organizes placement drives each academic year, wherein a range of private enterprises, governmental bodies, and industries participate and fill available positions. Alums of Mizoram University

Laltluangliana Khiangte

Laltluangliana Khiangte is a Mizo scholar, dramatist, and poet who writes in the Mizo language. In addition to being a professor at Pachhunga University College and North Eastern Hill University, he served as the principal of Serampore College. He is currently the most senior lecturer in the Mizoram University Department of Mizo. The Mizo Academy of Letters’ highest literary honour, the Pu Buanga Award, was given to him. In recognition of his contributions to Indian literature, the Indian government gave him the fourth-highest civilian accolade, the Padma Shri, in 2006. He is quite a notable alumni of Mizoram University. 

F. Lalnunmawia

Mizoram native Dr. F. Lalnunmawia is a politician for the Mizo National Front. He lives in Samtlang, Aizawl, Mizoram. He represented the Aizawl South 3 Constituency in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly. Before being elected to the Mizoram Legislative Assembly, he was an associate professor at Mizoram University. He received his MA from NEHU in Shillong and his PhD in Botany from Mizoram University.

Pu Lal Thanhawla

Pu Lal Thanhawla is an Indian politician from the Indian National Congress party who served as Mizoram’s chief minister. With five terms as Chief Minister of Mizoram—1984–1986, 1989–1993, 1993–1998, 2008–2013, and 2013–2018, he holds the longest tenure in that role. From 1973 till 2021, he presided over the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee. He successfully ran for the Mizoram Legislative Assembly nine times, in 1978, 1979, 1984, 1987, 1989, 1993, 2003, 2008, and 2013, representing the Serchhip and Hrangturzo electoral seats.

Vanlalthlana

Vanlalthlana is an Indian politician and scholar from Mizoram. He teaches commerce as an assistant professor at Mizoram University’s constituent, Pachhunga University College. He is a founder member of the Mizoram regional political party, the Zoram People’s Movement. Running as an independent candidate in the 2018 election, he represented the Aizawl North 2 constituency in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly. He overcame H. Liansailova of the Indian National Congress, Laltlanzova Khiangte of the Mizo National Front, Lalthanliana of the Mizoram People’s Conference, and the MLA who was in office then. 

Vanlalzawma

Mizoram native Vanlalzawma served as a member of the Mizoram Lok Sabha constituency in both the 13th and 14th Lok Sabhas. Before entering politics, he was the 37-year-old Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) president in 1993. He held the position for two terms. During this time, Vanlalzawma was awarded an award by the President of India for CYMA’s effective wildlife conservation efforts in Mizoram. During this time, CYMA’s annual aim was to conserve wildlife (“nungcha humhalh kum” in Mizo). He was from Mizoram University too.
