Alagappa University

Alagappa University is an affiliating-type state university (public/government university) located in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, India. Further, you can reach Alagappa University in less than two hours from Madurai and Tiruchirappalli airports. Alagappa University was founded in 1947 as Alagappa Arts College, later established as a university in 1985 by a special act of the Tamil Nadu government. Moreover, Alagappa University became affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Act 35 of 2002 with 21 arts, science, and commerce colleges and three other institutes. Alagappa University has 44 departments, nine centres, and two constituent colleges. Further, forty-six affiliated arts and science colleges (government) are in the districts of Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram, which are part of Alagappa University. 

Different modes of education, such as regular, weekend, distance, online, and collaborative, are available at the university. Further, Alagappa University offers a vast range of courses under the faculties of arts, science, management, and education. Moreover, various courses include languages, social sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, chemical sciences, biological sciences, computational sciences, marine sciences, management, education, physical education, and extension education.

UGC and AICTE Approvals 

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is a statutory organization of the Government of India to provide quality higher education for all. Further, it coordinates, determines, and maintains university education teaching, examination, and research standards.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India recognizes Alagappa University and the MHRD-UGC also grades it as a Category-I university.

AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) is another statutory body at the national level for planning and coordination of technical and management education systems in India. However, the council formulates and regulates technical education standards and norms in higher education systems. Overall, it approves or recognizes colleges that meet standard requirements for running technical courses.

The Alagappa University is recognized by UGC-DEB-AICTE, the government of India, for online courses.

NAAC Approval and Grade

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is an autonomous body of UGC that conducts assessments and accreditations of higher educational institutions (HEIs) based on quality standards in terms of their performance related to educational processes and outcomes, curriculum, quality teaching and learning environments, faculty, research, infrastructure, organization, governance, financial well-being, and student services.

Moreover, in the Third Cycle, NAAC has accredited Alagappa University with an A+ grade. (CGPA: 3.64).

Alagappa University established the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on March 12, 2005, following the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) guidelines. Further, IQAC maintains the quality of education and improves it wherever and whenever needed.

2022 Placement Records as per NIRF 

According to the NIRF report, Alagappa University placed 47 U.G. (3 years), 176 PG (2 years), and 16 P.G. (3 years) students in 2022.

Companies which visited Alagappa University offered U.G. (3-year) students a median package of INR 1.44 LPA. Further, the median package stood at INR 2.46 LPA and INR 2.70 LPA for P.G. (2-year) and P.G. (3-year) courses, respectively.

The median package offered to P.G. (2-year) courses in 2022 saw a 37% increase compared to the 2021 placements. Furthermore, the number of students placed in the U.G. (3-year) course was four times the number of students placed in 2021.
